Let’s Give Them Something To Talk About! !                                       InFocus Devotional

Romans 15:18-19
There was a movie starring Julia Roberts, Denis Quaid and a host of others in which two sisters and their mother decided they were not going to let their macho husbands get away with mistreating them. They decided to give them a taste of their own medicine so to speak. Julia Roberts’ character causes quite a stir at the Charity League meeting and decides she is going to “give them something to talk about.” It is time that Christians today give the world something to talk about as well. That something can be what Jesus Christ has done in our lives!
Most people feel like witnessing is useless, and besides who wants to hear yet another person ask “hey are you saved?” Maybe we’ve been asking questions when we should have been telling our story! Research proves that we are more convincing to the listener if he/she feels like we really believe in what we are saying. That’s a principle that Paul used early in his ministry. He was called by the Lord to open the gospel of Christ to the Gentiles primarily. In Romans 15:18-19 Paul says that the only thing that will persuade the Gentiles to know Christ is to tell the things that he had personally experienced in Christ. Now that’s something to talk about! Also look at what John writes in his opening paragraph of the First Epistle of John: “That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of Life.” John begins this letter like this with the sole intention that “we proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you may have fellowship with us.” Isn’t that powerful?
You see, it is not what we have done that will make an impression on others-it is what Christ has done for us, in us and around us that makes the difference. Both John and Paul were declaring what they knew from personal experience. Would you be willing to share what Christ has done in your life so that you can have fellowship with others? It sure would be a great way to start the day! Stop asking the question “are you saved?” and just keep telling the story of what Jesus has done in your life. Just give them something to talk about and let that something be Jesus!
